What We Do

What is Chiropractic?

Chiropractic is a safe, non-invasive and drug free form of healthcare. Chiropractors are primary healthcare professionals, which means you do not need a referral from your GP to make an appointment.

Chiropractors specialise in the diagnosis, treatment, management and prevention of musculoskeletal conditions. They are trained and qualified to deal with complaints and conditions involving the bones, joints, tendons, muscles, ligaments, nerves and discs.

Millions of people of all ages, from babies to the very elderly, have benefitted from the effective relief that chiropractic provides. Chiropractors are best known for treating back pain, neck pain and headaches but they are also qualified to treat a range of other conditions relating to the spine, shoulders, arms, hands, hips, knees and feet.

Your First Visit

If you are a new patient at Liskeard Chiropractic Clinic, you’ll need to give us some information about your background, medical history and the nature of your condition. This is so we can provide the best possible care, tailored to your specific needs.

A bit of paperwork

There is some brief paperwork for you to fill out when you arrive for your first visit. This provides us with general information about you and your condition.

History and Examination

During this process your Chiropractor will discuss your problem and ask you a number of questions related to your condition. With a full medical history your Chiropractor will then carry out a detailed examination of your spine and nervous system using a series of chiropractic, orthopaedic and neurological tests. The tests we use are performed to determine which tissues are affected and to what extent.

Bring any previous X-Rays

If you have had any X-Rays or scans taken before, even years ago, please bring them with you. If you don’t have the actual films a copy of the report is very helpful.

Report of Findings

Your chiropractor will explain to you clearly what is causing your condition and how we would suggest treating you, if appropriate. Please always ask us if you have any questions. We are always happy to answer them or go through things again with you.

Same-day treatment

Once the examination is complete, patients will generally have their first treatment during this same visit. During a treatment a Chiropractor uses their hands to locate a joint which is not moving properly and uses a quick impulse to release it, restoring movement to that joint. This is called an adjustment. The adjustment releases restrictions in the joint, takes pressure off the nerves which allows the muscles to work properly again.

Your treatment may include spinal adjustments, adjustments to other joints (if required) and other physical therapy such as soft tissue release techniques.

Home instructions

Before leaving, you’ll be given instructions on certain activities or procedures to be carried out at home. This may include ice or heat applications, avoidance of certain activities or positions, as well as home exercises.

Free Screenings

If you are unsure if Chiropractic is for you, we would be happy to book you in for a free screening called a Chiro Check. This is a no-obligation visit where you will be given a brief examination and advice on the best treatment. Obviously no treatment will be given, but you will be given an honest opinion on your problem and the Chiropractor will tell you whether they can help you, or not.

Phone 01579 340654 and ask for a ‘CHIRO CHECK’.
